The Wicked Virgin
The Wicked Virgin is a small family vineyard and olive grove established by John and Laurel Nowacki in 1999. Situated down a sweeping hill towards Rutherglen in North East Victoria, The Wicked Virgin invites visitors to share John and Laurel's passion for good food created from fresh produce, complemented by their excellent Wicked Virgin Extra Virgin Olive Oil and boutique Calico Town Wines. Having planted vines and olive trees, the need for a shopfront prompted the conversion of an old shearing shed which is now a rustic and welcoming mud brick cellar door and tasting area for their Calico Town Wines and Wicked Virgin Olive products. Also available are delicious house made cakes, great coffee and light lunches ranging from comfort foods to eclectic culinary adventures. Located on the Rutherglen town boundary, The Wicked Virgin and Calico Town Wines is a sprightly walk or cycle, using the Murray to Mountain Rail Trail which runs along the bottom of the Olive Grove. Visit The Wicked Virgin and Calico Town Wines, take a breath, relax in a friendly atmosphere. Enjoy good food and wine and immerse yourself in wonderful views and rural ambience.
Jones Winery & Vineyard
Jones Winery and Vineyard was established in 1860 and stands testament to a rich wine making tradition. Since 1927, the winery has been owned and operated by the Jones family. Entire blocks of old vine have been preserved making the winery one of only a few in Australia to produce wine from vines planted more than 100 years ago. Jones Winery & Vineyard cellar door offers visitors 'real and genuine' experiences in wine and service. The charming heritage listed sales area, built from handmade bricks with its original bark-lined roof, is the perfect place to enjoy our handcrafted wines and French style cuisine from our café. Adjoining the cellar door area our café serves food themed on those wonderful, simple dishes found in french cafés. Depending on the season we serve dishes such as french onion soup, boeuf bourgignon, croque monsieur and goat’s cheese salad.
The function room can seat up to 120 people for a sit down wedding and is located in one of the historic old wine cellars. We cater from 20 to 120 guests. We are very flexible with your wedding menu offering either 3 course sit down, cocktail/grazing or buffet. We are more than happy to help you within your budget.
Lake Moodemere Vineyards
Lake Moodemere Vineyards is owned and operated by sixth generation winemaker, Michael Chambers and his wife, Belinda. The select range of Estate Wines is produced with fruit from our 'Lakeside' vineyard, established in 1886. The range includes the legendary "refreshing yet decadent" Biancone, and the Shiraz and Cinsaut hand crafted from vine to bottle working together in good humour. Enjoy delicious cheese plates and tasting platters showcasing the regions freshest seasonal produce in the idyllic surronds of the homestead gardens overlooking Lake Moodemere. During the winter months the dining room provides a charming haven where premium wine, warming luncheons and the company of friends and family can be enjoyed by the wood fire. Some of the fantastic produce available at our cellar door includes Gundowring Ice Cream, Renaissance Chocolate, and Bridge Road Pale Ale.
