29th apartment is a re-creation of an apartment originally inhabited by the infamous Katishe: a salacious struggling artist who worked the local streets by night to support her passion and hopes of one day being discovered for her talents as a painter. A little after the time Jack Kerouac and Sid Vicious rented rundown rooms at New York City’s Chelsea Hotel, Katishe created her own slice of NYC at 29th apartment. When this gorgeous eccentric walked the dangerous streets at night and brought the rough and tumble men and women back to her place, none of her clients expected the maze of abstract oil paintings that stacked the walls. Fixated with the underground art and cultural movement that Andy Warhol had championed (and perhaps used to being up all night with her trade), most of Katishe’s paintings tell stories from the streets of NYC, the city that never sleeps. Since her mysterious disappearance in the early 80s, 29th apartment has only existed as a memory until 2009 when the current owners of the bar found her self-portrait, ‘Katishe’ as well as remnants of her personal life that are thought to have been part of her night time craft. Paying homage to this hard-working woman, the new owners re-imagined 29 Fitzroy Street as a bar and casual art gallery. With a fish tank that houses a now water-discoloured dildo in the cute bedroom, a decal of a back alleyway that leads to the toilets and a bookcase full of Katishe’s literary inspiration, 29th apartment brings the underbelly of St Kilda and New York together in a blend that can only be understood by taking a look into the heart of Katishe. 29th apartment welcomes you to ring its buzzer and enter into the comfy lounge room for a night of NYC inspired artwork, music, food and beverages.

Di Casa Cafe Bar Restaurant
Dion Li Rosi started his apprenticeship at Va Tutto Restaurant in Ivanhoe at the tender age of 16ish, after growing up in an environment where food, friends and family were paramount, it seemed natural to take a position in cookery. His love of food and tradition provided the passion needed to work up the ranks in the kitchen and improve his technique and knowledge. With itchy feet, he parted ways with Va Tutto and accepted a role at De Bortoli Wineries to complete his apprenticeship and increase his product knowledge. The completion of his apprenticeship saw him once again climb the ladder of hierarchy for a further 3 years until the thirst for knowledge had him take a break from cooking to up skill with a nutrition course at ACNT, which provided some of the most sensitive dietary information that is integral within the industry. Being away from the pans was harder than expected, so the next step was to re-enter the industry, but concentrate on different cuisine. Classically Italian trained, Dion took a job at Two Beans and a Farm, where the menu was heavily Spanish/French. Within the walls of this 150 Year old Homestead, a bond was concreted with the manager, Tro Jerijian, who he brought with him to DiCasa Restaurant. At DiCasa, we are heavily produce and service driven, sourcing the best products from local businesses and processing from scratch to create the best possible European cuisine. Using old school family recipes from the old country while incorporating the world’s best produce, Dion is able to represent his cultural background. We go to great lengths chasing producers and cutting out the middlemen, to reduce food miles as we often buy straight from the source. Whether you are a romantic table of 2 or a group booking of 60, the emphasis is to cater each situation to the needs of your guests. This incorporates all dietary requirements, children meals, disabled access, music, lighting and décor.

Bacash is situated on Domain Rd, South Yarra, close to the CBD, and only a short walk through the Botanical Gardens to the MCG and the Rod Laver Arena. Bacash Restaurant follows up on a reputation of fine seafood cooking earned at Michael and Fiona's first restaurant Toofey's. Michael and Fiona owned and operated Toofey's between 1989 and 2001 until they relocated to the more desirable surrounds of the beautiful Domain Road Village. Whilst at Toofey's Michael only cooked seafood, and since opening Bacash he has diversified the menu to appeal to a wider clientele.
